Eurovision 2013 – Maybe Actually

I wasn’t keen when they announced another old crooner as this years entry, then I’m glad they didn’t leave it up to the public as their previous attempts have led to sickly europop cack which wouldn’t have even made the grade in the nineties.
This song I cannot fault, it is an acceptable ballad with country tones and the longer notes comparible to a shortened meatloaf track. It doesn’t sound special in anyway but does leave the open question that it maybe is what we need.
Of course we don’t want to host it, so not winning and taking second is our goal. This could possibly do it. Not heard anyone elses tracks yet though.

Sprinting A Marathon

How much easier is it to sprint a marathon? That is, for several persona, to sprint 100m dashes in relay in order to beat the World Record. It turns out it is fairly difficult.

Dr Who: Clara, a Leaf and several Mums

I don’t normally go into the Dr Who theorising about the long standing mysteries of the show. But nearing the end of episode 2 of the 2013 series, which I was watching a week late, there was an interesting quote by Clara:

These are all of my mums

Whilst at the time this was in the context of her mothers memories in the leaf, her charactor would surely of naturally said something using the word mother if not for the clue of the episode. Does Clara have ‘several mums’ for several versions of herself? If so, then that leaf which could hold the key to the mystery, could have contained many mums memories making the leaf more powerful than anything. Considering the doctor couldn’t topple the ‘god’ on his own surely a single persons memories in a leaf could not compete unless it is explained as above. Episode 3 tonight.

For 1 Night Only from TNA: X-Travaganza; A refreshing experience

It felt odd to see an entire evening consisting of wrestlers giving their best performance without worry about playing to any sort of gimick. It was refreshing, but would have been questionable if I would have paid to watch the event, the future of PPV, maybe not. Then again, as it is following in Japans footsteps, it could provide the upper edge for TNA this year. The producton values would have been smaller so maybe profits will be kept steady. If you like, this is what Destination X should have been

WrestleMania XXIX @ The Common Room

My first visit for a while to The Common Room, Sheffield, was to witness my first ever live WWE PPV event, and what was a bit one – WrestleMania. I’d heard last years event was considered among the best and whilst the only choice of ale was Abbeydale Deception I could live with it for a while.

Harley & The Twisted Burger Company

The first week after the Easter break signals the changing of the burger at The Harley, which marks the beginning of the West Street towards the city centre from the west. It must mean a year ago I made my first visit to try out their Breakfast Pork Burger: pork burger in maple glaze served in a ring doughnut with hash browns and banana fritters on the side. It provided a tasty if sickly meal which i failed to completely eat on my first attempt.

On It’s Own, The Ember Pub

A single pub visit on their Tuesday quiz night yielded some mixed emotions about the Three Brooks in Bradley Stoke. It was busy as I entered, two champions league matches were on amongst varying screens and the general knowledge quiz was being prepared. Behind the bar two guys and a newbie female who, whilst being able to do the job, lacked concentration and lacked any sense of handwriting. The conversation behind the bar sometimes blue but then again this was the Stoke’s local local drinking hole. First choice of ales came from the boring Wadsworth and other bitter varieties. The one exception being Bath Ales Bitter, still a bitter, but still relativly dull.

Zootropia – We’re Going to the Zoo (Alright, have been to the zoo and was disappointed)

For some reason Bristol Zoo has a special place in my memories despite always seeming to be disappointing. I don’t mean disappointing, in the same way in losing a sports match by a point when you have put so much effor in, moreso disappointing as in just not being that great.

Bristol & Beer from three award winning companies

Second pub crawl for the blog, this time in the South West. A quick visit to see family in Bristol led to an evening of being persuaded that there are some breweries out there which can produce good ales in the West despite, what I consider to be, poorer waters.
